Shortly before Christmas I saw a colorful romper that I thought my daughter would like, and it was on sale! I had a conversation with the sales clerk telling her that this was a Christmas gift and asked about a "gift receipt" and I was told I didn't need one as long as my daughter kept the "yellow sticker" on the tags.

Shortly after Christmas my daughter tried to return the romper because it was too small. She went to the Atlanta/Perimeter Mall Dillard's and was told they could not return the item because it was past the three day return window! What? (Also the two clerks that she was speaking to acted like she was an interruption to THIER discussion!) I just knew ther had to be a mistake, so I had her mail it to me in Panama City Beach.

I took the romper with the *** "yellow sticker" to customer service and was told about the three day return policy for clearances items. When I asked where this is stated, I was told on the sales sign above the rack and on my receipt. On the way out of the store with the romper in hand, I stopped at a sales sign and sure enough it is on the sign in small print at the bottom. It was also on my receipt, which I didn't read closely.

I was only concerned on the day of purchase that the right price was charged, not the fine print. Since I live in a small town and there are not any other "high end" stores that I can buy gifts in that can be returned where my family lives(they have the same store), I did all of my Christmas shopping at Dillard's. Well I got hit on the $19.00 romper, but in the end Dillard's got hit by losing a good customer.

At any time during my purchase the clerk could have said "You will only have three days to return or exchange this", or the store could have given a store credit and everyone would have been a winner. I sent Dillard's an email regarding this issue and nothing...

Reason of review: Couldn't make exchange/return after 3 days..

Monetary Loss: $19.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Location: Panama City, Florida

I agree! i went shopping at Dillards for christmas gifts for my grandchildren and was told it was a 3 day return policy.

I put everything back. This was in November and the items were Christmas gifts. If they did not fit I wanted my children to be able to replace the gifts. I'm not going to GIVE Dillards my money.

Ridiculous policy. If you cannot return, you should at least be able to exchange for the value you spent.

Sorry but thatโ€™s what you get when you buy CLEARANCE!! If it wasnโ€™t a clearance item then you would have been able to return it.

You KNEW you were getting the item cheap as it was in the CLEARANCE section. Just because YOU FAILED TO READ doesnโ€™t make them bad. Just because you were told NO doesnโ€™t make them bad. Get over yourself I donโ€™t care how old you are, youโ€™re acting like a spoiled child.

YOU FAILED.... get it yet? You made assumptions, you didnโ€™t read. Not only the clearly posted signs but also the piece of paper that proves you bought it.

Then you made a scene because YOU were not going to take ANY responsibility at all. Itโ€™s under $20 why didnโ€™t you donate it?

I am sorry for the person saying that if it states "clearance" the you pay for what you get....ahhh not sure what planet yoy are from...but the 2 day return policy is plain stupid! Every other store HAS 30 to 90 day RETURN policy on clearance items!! Dillards is going to end up failing if they continue this issue!!

Shouldnโ€™t matter if it was clearance if items donโ€™t fit. Someone else may be looking for that size. Ridiculous policy!

So you didn't bother to read anything and it's the stores fault? Are you serious?

No, as a customer it is YOUR responsibility to read your receipt, read the actual signs. This one is one YOU, not Dillards.

you are 100% wrong! DILLARD'S return policy is sneaky and unacceptable.

At 60 years old ... I consider myself a well seasoned shopper.. and I would shop at Wal-Mart before EVER going into another DILLARD'S again as a result of this policy. I purchased a $48.00 item as a gift and it did not fit the person I purchased it for.

I was happy to return it for her and get her a store gift card in return....only to find this out!

it's a shirt NOT a car purchase! I should NOT have to read fine print for a basic clothing purchase!

Why is it written so small that you have to look on a sign for it! Ridiculous policy!
