Attitude at register

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - The tag showed 24.16; the rung-up was 35.00.
  • - Staff insists pricing follows the rung-up; no manager available to confirm.
  • - Similar items had different tags; pricing inconsistent.

Went to pay for a dress. She rang it up and said $35.00.

I said, 'That's not what the tag reads.' She looked at the tag, and it shows $24.16. She said it doesn't matter what the tag says; it's how it rings up. I said, 'Well, it matters to me.' She sent me over to find another one; it's a sale, no other one, but others similar, and they are tagged all different. She said, 'Well, that's the price.' I said, 'That's not how this works, but I want it anyway.' So I paid and asked for a manager.

She said, 'Here she comes.' I said, 'Are you the manager?' and the lady said no. So I went to another register and asked to speak to a manager, and she called and said they are all out to lunch; it's 4:00 PM.

This argument is not over $9.00; it's over the attitude and how she decides that she is right and no one is coming to confirm it. I was almost the only person in the store, and now I know why.

Loss:
$8
Pros:
  • Husband loves mens dept
Cons:
  • Employee tried to remove tag when i asked to speak to manager

Preferred solution: Apology

User's recommendation: Dont shop here unless you have to. Clowns running the store.

Well if it is about the attitude and arguing, technically you have an attitude as well by arguing.

*** dismissed a manufacturing defect because the purchase was “before Christmas,” as if flaws magically expire

Dillards Apparently defects expire after Christmas?

I bought a *** handbag at Dillards in *** before Christmas. Used it maybe five or six times.

Nothing rough. Nothing dramatic. I carried it to church, a lunch date, and twice shopping. Then I noticed a very obvious manufacturing defect: about two inches of trim on the back were never sewn into the seam.

Its sticking out like a little flag saying, Quality control took the day off.

Around Mar 17th, 2026, I contacted Dillards customer service. I explained the defect. I explained that it was clearly a construction issue. And I was shut down instantly because the purchase was before Christmas.

No request for photos. No escalation. No let me check with a supervisor. Just a digital door slammed in my face.

Apparently at Dillards, defects have an expiration date.

And this isnt my first rodeo with their policies.

Last year, I couldnt return childrens dresses because their 3day return window includes the day of purchase which means if you buy something in the evening, congratulations, you basically lost a day. Holiday shopping? Forget it.

For context: I worked in retail management, Im a clothing designer, and I was a registered secret shopper in ***. I know what a defect looks like.

I know what customer service looks like. And I know when a store is hiding behind policy instead of doing the absolute bare minimum.

After this, my husband and I will be closing our Dillards account again. Im done wasting time on a store that cant be bothered to look at a photo of a defect before telling me too bad.

What they SHOULD have done? Looked at the photo I offered.

(Revolutionary, I know.) Acknowledged the defect instead of pretending dates matter more than quality. Used common sense. A manufacturing flaw doesnt magically become my fault because Christmas happened. Escalated instead of ejecting me from the chat.

A supervisor review wouldve taken 30 seconds. Acted like they stand behind what they sell. (Radical concept for a retailer.) Showed a shred of empathy. Even a simple That must be frustrating wouldve been a start.

Fake. But a start.

In short:

Dillards could have listened, looked, and acted instead of hiding behind a calendar.

Wow. I sure wouldn't want them to represent MY product.

User's recommendation: Buy a cheap purse at a cheap store and spend the $200 you'll save elsewhere.

As another stated, use the manufacturer warranty. As far as Christmas?

The only reason it was mentioned was most retailers allow purchases after 11/1 be returned until 1/31. Nothing nefarious. You were well beyond that.

Also, ask all those advanced-degree holders in your life about warranties and how the manufacturer will NOT reimburse the store beyond the store’s stated return period. That’s why they offer one.

Guest

Typical loser consumer padding their complaint with bad logic and irrelevant facts. Dillard’s stands behind what they sell as stated in their return policy.

Your issue is with Ted Baker.

There is a 6-month warranty. You were lazy dealing with the store.

Aren't you presumtuous. Who are you to make such accusations?

You obviously know nothing about sales nor how to keep a customer. I used to open test stores and train others in customer service. My husband and many members of our family have their masters in business. I also had a company designing for others since I was 14.

You? You, no doubt, are the "loser" as you so eloquently put it. (Interersting that you are calling someone who is standing up for themself a loser. Is that your hobby?

Belittling? Wow. WHO's the loser.) Yes, Ted Baker created the flaw, but Dillards is the front man. They profit from the sale.

They should have offered to exchange the purse, however, they did not even look at the photo and were unwilling to communicate. I have contacted Ted Baker and am waiting for their reply.

My issue is with the poor follow-up service with Dillards. You see, that is part of being a retail outlet.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2827562

You are beyond the timeframe for any follow-up or accountability from Dillard’s. They have a return policy/period, you are long past it.

That is why manufacturer warranties exist. Follow up with TB. What your husband/others educated selves or your poor secret-shopping-sweatshop self think doesn’t matter.

No retailer operates like the fairy tale in your head believes. If so, go there.

Won't exchange expensive flawed accessory.

Dillards - Won't exchange expensive flawed accessory. - Image 3

Im posting this because Im honestly stunned by how badly *** handled a simple, legitimate issue.

Before Christmas, I bought a *** handbag at Dillards in ***. It was a special gift a rare purplybrown shade that matched a few pieces in my wardrobe.

I used it maybe five or six times. Nothing rough. Nothing that would ever damage a wellmade bag.

Then I discovered a clear manufacturing defect:

about two inches of trim on the back were never sewn into the seam.

It was sticking out visibly. This wasnt wear.

This wasnt misuse. This was a construction mistake that left the factory.

On March 19, 2026, I contacted Dillards customer service. I explained the defect. I explained that it was obviously a manufacturing issue.

And I was dismissed instantly because the purchase was before Christmas. The chat ended abruptly. No request for photos. No escalation.

No help at all.

It felt like they were saying, We dont care. Youre on your own.

And this isnt the first time Dillards policies have burned me. Last year, I couldnt return childrens dresses because their 3day return window includes the day of purchase making evening and holiday shopping almost impossible. I was left with items I couldnt use.

But this one hurt the most.

I trusted *** to stand behind what they sell. Instead, they hid behind a rigid policy and refused to even look at the defect.

For context, Im not someone who misidentifies flaws. I worked in retail management, Im a clothing designer, and I was a registered secret shopper in ***. I know what proper construction looks like.

This was a manufacturing flaw, plain and simple and Dillards didnt even care enough to review a photo.

My husband and I will be closing our Dillards account again. After repeated issues, financial loss, and now being dismissed over a defective product, Im done.

*** needs to take a hard look at how they treat customers, because this experience has left me feeling dismissed, frustrated, and deeply betrayed.

Pros:
  • Clean aisles but dirty customer service
  • Know how to take your money and then dump you
Cons:
  • Dismissive unhelpful and inflexible
  • Service ends when you pay
  • Bad rigid polices replace common sense

Preferred solution: I would like my purse exchanged for one without flaws A sincere apology Proof that they are looking seriously at how to improve customer service during and after sales

User's recommendation: Close your store account. Quit shopping there.

I think you should more accurately re-title your post. “Uneducated consumer unaware of how manufacturer warranties work AFTER a store’s return period passes. Tantrum and Entitlement ensue”.

Guest

You are beyond the return policy of Dillard’s. The handbag has a six month warranty with Ted Baker.

Use it. Pathetic whining on your part.

PLEASE train your in store employees...

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Requests staff training on Apple Pay returns.
  • - Poor experience at Quail Springs Dillard's in OKC.
  • - Staff mocked the customer as a thief.

Please train your in-store employees how to do a return when an item was purchased using Apple Pay. I had the worst experience at the Dillard location in Oklahoma City at the Quail Springs location.

I'm to the point of never being a customer again because of this experience. I was mocked, treated like a thief because when you make a purchase using Apple Pay it uses a different card number. The male and female employees were rolling their eyes at me, and the female was accusing me of calling her a man when I was clearly talking to the male employee.

My daughter is the one that explained it to me, and that was the issue with the receipt showing a different card number. She's never worked for your company, and the fact she had to tell your employees how to do their job should be embarrassing not only for the lack of professionalism in handling this matter but also for the rude and condescending tone of both employees.

Preferred solution: Apology

I am not a pissed customer. I told the the Dillard rep I ordered the wrong size sport coats and needed to replace them with the right size.

He emailed me the return label. It was a good experience.

I am totally happy with my experience. I already ordered the replacements.

Unhappy with return policy

AI Highlights

I bought two shirts, two ties, and a pair of shoes and a suit on Feb 25. The shirts do not fit.

I did not notice the 3-day policy. I was not told that either. I went to customer service and was denied. I asked for the manager who stayed hidden.

The clerk then asked him/her for a one-time favor. I only want a size that fits. No money.

The manager said no. I buy all my clothes from ***, but no more.

Racism and Sexual Harassment at ***, ***, ***

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - On Jan 17, 2026 at Stonebriar Mall, Darwin yelled at a female employee.
  • - The berating was prolonged and demeaning, inappropriate for a manager.

I am submitting a formal complaint regarding an incident I witnessed on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m. at the *** location involving a manager identified as ***.

This manager engaged in sustained, aggressive verbal behavior toward a female employee in a public area, including yelling and berating her in front of customers. His demeanor appeared visibly angry and hostile. I attempted to intervene, but my presence was ignored. The conduct was demeaning, intimidating, and wholly inappropriate for a managerial role.

From my perspective as a customer, the interaction raised serious concerns about harassment and employee treatment.

This was not a brief lapse in judgment, but prolonged behavior that created an uncomfortable and intimidating environment for both the employee and surrounding patrons. It reflected a troubling lack of professionalism and leadership.

User's recommendation: Do not shop there, unsafe environment for shoppers!

You have no idea what happened prior to necessitate what you saw (although it should have been handled privately). Regardless, nothing you described is r@ cism or sexual harassment. They do not need armchair HR reps in the store.

Defective merchandise not addressed

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Purchased The SAK purse on 6/12/25; sought compensation within 30 days.
  • - Darwin quoted only the original return policy; no credit or exchange.

I purchased a The SAK purse on 6/12/25. I tried to receive compensation for the defective purse within 30 days.

Dillard should have stood by the products it sold and given me some compensation. Assistant Store Manager Darwin only quoted me the original store return policy. I wanted some compensation for the defective product Dillard sold. The employee would not credit my account, would not swap the same purse, and only quoted the original return policy.

I am very disappointed with customer service at Dillard.

I always remembered Dillard stood for quality products and great customer service. I am so sorry this is no longer the case!
